Running in the Family: Can We Help Anxious Parents to Raise Confident Children?
Why do mental health problems run in families? And, more importantly, can we do anything to stop this? We know that children of parents who have anxiety disorders are at increased risk of developing mental health problems themselves. But what can we actually do about it?
In this session, Prof. Sam Cartwright-Hatton will explore the fascinating science of how anxiety influences the way parents think, feel and behave, and how this might affect the way they respond to their children.
She will share some surprising findings from her research into helping anxious parents raise confident children, and ask whether changing the way we parent could help break the cycle of anxiety from one generation to the next.
