White Wall Cinema: PANIC ROOM
October 16 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pm

One of the world’s most beloved directors, David Fincher cemented his status as perhaps the defining filmmaker of the late 1990s to early 2010s with an unprecedented run of films that included Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac, The Social Network, and Gone Girl—all of which earned widespread critical acclaim and box office success. But with such high-profile triumphs often comes overlooked gems, in this case Fincher’s taut 2002 thriller was buried in the hype of the monumental, zeitgeist-defining impact of his previous film Fight Club.
Now, in 2025—freed from the burden of being “the follow up to Fight Club”—Panic Room re-emerges in this long-awaited, brand-new 4K remaster, revealing itself as a hugely entertaining, heart-pounding home invasion thriller. Fincher perfectly utilises the twin talents of the legendary Jodie Foster (The Silence of the Lambs, Nell) in one of her finest roles, and a pre-Twilight Kristen Stewart as a newly divorced mother and daughter who, upon moving into a Manhattan brownstone, are bemused to discover it contains a state-of-the-art panic room—an impenetrable safe space designed for emergencies. Little do they know they’re about to need it, as three masked intruders (Forest Whitaker, Jared Leto, and Dwight Yoakam) violently break in during the dead of night.
Combining Fincher’s signature glossy dread with a lesser-appreciated Hitchcockian flair, Panic Room is a masterclass in spatial tension, with characters maneuverer like pawns in a high-stakes game of psychological chess. Touching on themes as varied as gender, feminism, surveillance, mortality, domesticity, race, real estate, and ecological anxiety, it’s as intelligent as it is nerve-shredding—a rare thriller that makes existential dread feel thrillingly enjoyable.
Join us for a special screening of the brand-new 4K remaster as spooky season kicks off in style.
