LIMBO
A remarkable sophomore feature from British filmmaker Ben Sharrock, Limbo is the immaculately researched but sensitively humorous tale of Syrian refugee Omar (Amir El-Masry), stranded on a fictional remote Scottish island. A talented musician, Omar is relegated to playing a waiting game alongside his fellow refugees as they struggle with personal pain, uneven relations with the locals, and the bureaucracy of an asylum request. Limbo expertly walks the tightrope between comedy, existential crisis and downright tragedy. This Bafta nominated darkly comic life affirming drama has received widespread acclaim including wins for Best Film, Best Director and Best Writer at the Scottish Baftas with The Guardian describing it as ‘Witty, poignant, marvellously composed’ and Time Out proclaiming ‘Sublime… will break and remake you”.
