This underappreciated 2002 remake of Tarkovsky’s 70s sci fi classic is celebrating its 20th anniversary and is ripe for reappraisal. Helmed by noted director Steven Soderbergh (Sex Lies & Videotape, Out Of Sight, Traffic, Oceans 11, Contagion, Logan Lucky) and produced by super director James Cameron (Terminator, Aliens) it’s an elegant and streamlined approach to Stanisław Lem’s novel that tackles themes of loss, identity, and reality at the edge of the universe when recently bereaved psychologist Kris Kelvin (George Clooney) is sent to investigate strange goings on at a remote space station.
