DESCRIPTION:A deeply personal story from director James Gray (Ad Astra) the film depicts family life for a young Jewish boy growing up in early ‘80s QueensNew York. Caught between the cultural ideals of the ’70s and the soon to be exploding ’80s world of Reaganism\, Armageddon Time is a much more subtle and fascinating tale than most coming of age dramas. Focusing not only on the personal trials and tribulations of growing up\, the film also allows for nuanced ideas about how the experiences of youth\, family\, societal position and personal identity can shape adult life. Despite the film’s seemingly nostalgic setting it rejects rose-tinted cliché as Gray creates a film about his childhood as can only be understood with the benefit of hindsight.
