SUMMARY:Brighton Astro: The JWST - from a gleam in the eye to spectacular success
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:  \n\n\n\nProfessor Malcolm Longair | University of Cambridge \n\n\n\nI have been fortunate enough to be at the forefront of all the developments which have led to the launch and incredible success of the JWST. These include the development of infrared and submillimetre astronomy\, of the Hubble Space Telescope\, of ALMA and the JWST. These projects will be set in the context of developments in Astrophysical Cosmology. We are now addressing key questions about the origin of galaxies and the stars within them. The lecture will be profusely illustrated with recent images and videos. \n\n\n\n\nDOORS: 7.00pm\n\n\n\nLECTURE: 7.30pm\n\n\n\n\nRegister to Attend\n\n\n\nAttendance is free\, but we would be grateful if those of you who are able to could donate a few pounds to help cover the cost of hiring this event space. We will have a card reader and a money box you can drop your donations in on the night. We also have a bank account you can donate to electronically.
