SUMMARY:White Wall Cinema Presents - ELVIS: THAT'S THE WAY IT IS
DESCRIPTION:One of the most remarkable music films in cinema history\, this special re-version of the 1970 documentary provides an intimate look at one of the most captivating performers of all time at the very peak of his powers. The film follows Elvis’s preparations for his emotional comeback to the stage after a decade long absence\, with a wealth of behind-the-scenes footage\, culminating in one of the most electrifying performances ever captured on film. Raw\, gritty\, re-energized and brimming with an almost alarming amount of natural charisma\, That’s The Way It Is shows the humour\, humanity and inescapable magnetic talent behind an iconic figure that has been lost to a distorted media caricature. Representing the musical maturation of Elvis’s artistry ahead of his later decline\, this portrait of a musician in his prime still startles today. A must for lovers of live music\, pop culture and Elvis fans alike\, it provides the sorely missing piece of Baz Luhrmann’s recent ‘Elvis’ film that\, try as it might\, could never live up to undiluted brilliance of the real thing. \n\n\n\nhttps://www.wegottickets.com/sct/UwrNzZ5GNw \n\n\n\n\n\nDOORS: 8.00pm \n\n\n\nSTART TIME: 8.30pm \n\n\n\nRUN TIME: 92 mins approx \n\n\n\nCERT: U (under 15’s must be accompanied by an adult) \n\n\n\nLOCATION: Wagner Hall (Regency Road\, Brighton)

SUMMARY:White Wall Cinema Presents - THE ILLUSIONIST
DESCRIPTION:Based on a story by the great Jacques Tati\, the director of Bellville Rendevous / The Triplets of Bellville\, Sylvain Chomet provides and exquisite follow up to his much-loved tale of a Tour De France racer. This time he focuses on an ageing magician who finds himself in a world more interested in rock stars than in illusionists\, who befriends an innocent young girl in a tender tale of friendship\, a voyage of discovery that makes room for the human capacity for wonder\, even in an a largely indifferent world. This time set in London and Edinburgh\, Chomet’s world is nothing short of a miracle of animation. So beautifully rendered is the environment and the tale of its protagonists The Illusionist is capable of making even the most jaded viewers dewy eyed at its sublime artistry and melancholy but uplifting story. Filled with gentle humour\, clever set pieces\, and human connection\, it is in essence a cinematic act of love from a father to a daughter and a highly recommended must see on a big screen\, in order to savour the details of what is one of the great animations of the last several decades. \n\n\n\nhttps://www.wegottickets.com/sct/RXv2GZanwQ \n\n\n\n\n\nDOORS: 7.30pm* \n\n\n\nSTART TIME: 8.00pm \n\n\n\nRUN TIME: 79 mins approx \n\n\n\nCERT: PG \n\n\n\nLOCATION: Wagner Hall (Regency Road\, Brighton)

SUMMARY:White Wall Cinema Presents - PET SEMATARY
DESCRIPTION:Music video director Mary Lambert famed for making 80s classic promos for the likes of Madonna\, Eurythmics\, and Janet Jackson hits the big screen for a horror classic to remember. When the Creed family move to a new home in Maine and meet friendly neighbour Jud Crandell (played by Fred Gwynne of The Munsters classic TV series) all seems well. Little do the family know that the creepy pet cemetery beside their house will lead to a wild series of occurrences after Crandell advises the family to bury their recently deceased cat there.  Based on perhaps Stephen King’s most twisted concept Lambert fashions a film of familial terror stuffed with dodgy dialogue\, preposterous plotting and genuinely chilling horror in what is a non-stop avalanche of Halloween movie entertainment.  \n\n\n\nhttps://www.wegottickets.com/sct/CKNK7b6GmV \n\n\n\n\n\nDOORS: 7.30pm* \n\n\n\nSTART TIME: 8.00pm \n\n\n\nRUN TIME: 103 mins approx \n\n\n\nCERT: 18 \n\n\n\nLOCATION: Wagner Hall (Regency Road\, Brighton)

SUMMARY:White Wall Cinema Presents - SOLARIS
DESCRIPTION:Part of a long tradition of existential sci fi movies that includes the likes of Moon\, 2001: A Space Odyssey\, Blade Runner\, Ad Astra\, Silent Running and Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. This underappreciated 2002 remake of Tarkovsky’s 70s sci fi classic is celebrating its 20th anniversary and is ripe for reappraisal. Helmed by noted director Steven Soderbergh (Sex Lies & Videotape\, Out Of Sight\, Traffic\, Oceans 11\, Contagion\, Logan Lucky) and produced by super director James Cameron (Terminator\, Aliens) it’s an elegant and streamlined approach to Stanisław Lem’s novel that tackles themes of loss\, identity\, and reality at the edge of the universe when recently bereaved psychologist Kris Kelvin (George Clooney) is sent to investigate strange goings on at a remote space station. Also starring Natasha McElhorne and Viola Davis don’t miss this  thought provoking\, tense\, mesmerising\, mysterious\, visually breath taking film on the big screen \n\n\n\nhttps://www.wegottickets.com/sct/pBXQjzD7KP \n\n\n\n\n\nDOORS: 7.50pm* \n\n\n\nSTART TIME: 8.30pm \n\n\n\nRUN TIME: 98 mins approx \n\n\n\nCERT: 18 \n\n\n\nLOCATION: Wagner Hall (Regency Road\, Brighton)

SUMMARY:White Wall Cinema Presents - KLUTE
DESCRIPTION:A landmark in feminist cinema Klute is a thriller from All The President’s Men / Sophie’s Choice director Alan J. Pakula that features a groundbreaking and deeply intelligent central performance from Jane Fonda in what is easily the best role which earned her a Best Actress Oscar win. Alongside the ever great Donald Sutherland\, Fonda plays high priced call girl Bree Daniels who assists Detective John Klute (Sutherland) in a missing persons case that clearly endangers her own life. Part of the great movement of American 70s paranoia thrillers\, the movie is stolen by Fonda’s exceptional deep understanding of her character’s psyche as a call girl struggling to understand her life and motivations. A gripping performance that handily avoids cliche and fascinates throughout Fonda grabs the opportunity to upend lazy assumptions about female sex workers and create a fully formed multi layered character. A brilliantly atmospheric film worth seeing not only for it’s sensational take on the mood of Watergate era America but chiefly for its utterly heroic powerhouse performance by Fonda that will linger in your mind for many years to come \n\n\n\nhttps://www.wegottickets.com/sct/3gRuHgM3bW \n\n\n\n\n\nDOORS: 7.40pm* \n\n\n\nSTART TIME: 8.10pm \n\n\n\nRUN TIME: 114 mins approx \n\n\n\nCERT: 15 \n\n\n\nLOCATION: Wagner Hall (Regency Road\, Brighton)

SUMMARY:White Wall Cinema Presents - The Secret Movie Club : The Instant Classic
DESCRIPTION:White Wall Cinema presents \n\n\n\nFRIDAY MARCH 11TH \n\n\n\nThe Secret Movie Club\n\n\n\nOur “Secret Movie Club” project takes a movie you most likely haven’t seen before (but will instantly love) and keeps the identity of the movie a secret\, only revealing which film you are watching when the opening credits roll. The aim is to provide you with a brilliant forgotten or overlooked gem from cinema’s past or present. Every time we do these events we get such phenomenal feedback from you guys. It’s incredibly rewarding to have people say to us they had never even heard of the movie we screened for them\, but that it is now instantly among their favourites! \n\n\n\nThe Instant Classic\n\n\n\nFor our first mystery movie of 2022 we visit the south central portion of the United States in a film that both authentically portrays the magnificent vistas and social landscape of the region but also raises the dramatic stakes to create a beautifully paced thriller packed with brilliant character studies and clever plotting\, making this modern overlooked gem have both the appeal of current cinema and also somehow the feel of a classic. Gripping\, intelligently written\, and often tense\, this film boasts a truly great late period performance from a cult figure of Hollywood cinema as well as an overlooked performance from one of the box office’s current crop\, sound tracked with a score from a well known alternative favourite. With echoes of filmmaker’s such as Howard Hawks and The Coen Brothers\, this mystery film was nominated for a slew of awards including Oscars\, Baftas and Golden Globes\, and was gleefully received by critics\, currently holding a score only a few digits shy of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. \n\n\n\nhttps://www.whitewallcinema.co.uk/theinstantclassic \n\n\n\n\n\nTickets available from: https://www.wegottickets.com/sct/tGCS6Fm8V6 \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDOORS: 7.40pm* \n\n\n\nSTART TIME: 8.10pm \n\n\n\nRUN TIME: 100 mins approx \n\n\n\nCERT: 15 \n\n\n\nLOCATION: Wagner Hall (Regency Road\, Brighton)

SUMMARY:White Wall Cinema Presents - North by Northwest
DESCRIPTION:White Wall Cinema presents \n\n\n\nFRIDAY MARCH 4TH \n\n\n\nNORTH BY NORTHWEST\n\n\n\nThe master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock thrills in full Vistavision and Technicolor glory in easily one of his greatest creations. Eschewing the ‘horror’ elements of better known works like Psycho and The Birds\, here we see the kind of film Hitch was born to make. A perfect example of his ‘pure cinema’ ethos it features a truly on form Carey Grant as Madison Avenue ad exec Roger Thornhill who becomes accidentally becomes embroiled in an international espionage plot thanks to a classic Hitch style case of mistaken identity\, alongside the quintessential icy blonde Eve Marie Saint and the ever calculating James Mason. Exquisitely realized through iconic set pieces\, a twisting turning plot\, a wry sense of humour\, and with glamour and style oozing from every frame\, North By Northwest surpasses even the best modern Hollywood thrillers in terms of sheer excitement and entertainment in a way that still fully magnetises modern audiences to the screen right from the off. \n\n\n\nhttps://www.whitewallcinema.co.uk/march4th \n\n\n\n\n\nTickets available from: https://www.wegottickets.com/sct/9dFwAJyQjB \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDOORS: 7.15pm* \n\n\n\nSTART TIME: 7.45pm \n\n\n\nRUN TIME: 136 mins approx \n\n\n\nCERT: 12 (under 15s must be accompanied by an adult) \n\n\n\nLOCATION: Wagner Hall (Regency Road\, Brighton)

SUMMARY:White Wall Cinema Presents - The Outsiders | Rumblefish DOUBLE BILL
DESCRIPTION:DOUBLE BILL PRESENTATION: \n\n\n\nTHE OUTSIDERS & RUMBLEFISH \n\n\n\nCredited as the inventor of the YA genre\, Susan Eloise Hinton’s (better known by her pen name S.E. Hinton) two classic novels received stunning back to back film adaptations from the great Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather\, Apocalypse Now\, The Cotton Club) with a cast of then largely unknown (mostly teenage) actors that included a future who’s who of Hollywood including Matt Dillon\, Rob Lowe\, Emelio Estevez\, Tom Cruise\, Patrick Swayze\, Ralph Macchio\, Diane Lane\, Mickey Rourke\,  Nicolas Cage\, Laurence Fishburne and more. These two back to back Coppola creations\, whilst being beautifully dissimilar still share a thematic convergence through Hinton’s two tales of disaffected Oklahoman teenagers. \n\n\n\nThe Outsiders bathed in its golden light of a nostalgic melodrama (seen in here in a stunning brand new 4K restoration in its ‘Complete Novel’ cut) and Rumble Fish’s fatalistic melding of film noir\, the French new wave\, and German expressionism are two of the most visually arresting and heartfelt productions in all of cinema. The Outsiders\, ‘The Complete Novel’ cut boasts a newly added collection of excellent era appropriate songs sound tracking its socio-economic gang conflicts of the working-class “Greasers” and the upper-class “Socs”. Rumble Fish features a fittingly stylised score by The Police’s Stewart Copeland charting Rusty James’s battle to live up to his brothers (dubious) ‘Motorcycle Boy’ reputation. Adding to this is Coppola’s outstanding direction and cast both captured by Stephen H. Burum’s remarkable cinematography\, making these two films an unforgettable and essential cinematic double bill.  \n\n\n\nhttps://www.whitewallcinema.co.uk/february27th \n\n\n\n\n\nTickets available from: https://www.wegottickets.com/sct/3wS4KfAgAH \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDOORS: 6.00pm* \n\n\n\nSTART TIME: 6.20pm \n\n\n\nRUN TIME: 115 + 94 mins approx \n\n\n\nCERT: 18 \n\n\n\nLOCATION: Wagner Hall (Regency Road\, Brighton)

SUMMARY:White Wall Cinema Presents - Moscow on the Hudson
DESCRIPTION:White Wall Cinema presents \n\n\n\nFRIDAY FEBRUARY 18TH \n\n\n\nMOSCOW ON THE HUDSON-4K RESTORATION (1984)\n\n\n\nAn overlooked Robin Williams gem\, Moscow On The Hudson exploits William’s keen talent for both comedic and dramatic roles. This gentle tale of a Soviet saxophone player fed up with the bread lines and KGB oversite that plague his life at home decides to defect to the U.S. whilst he is on tour in New York with his circus troupe. Focusing just as much on humanity as humour\, Williams offers up a deeply tender portrayal of a man navigating his way in a new world\, in a film that earnestly celebrates and critiques American society and the American dream. A tribute to New York multiculturalism and a beautifully appointed early film role for Williams\, Moscow On The Hudson is utterly charming\, with a brilliantly sensitive but never sentimental central performance. One of the great unsung performances from the late\, great Robin Williams. \n\n\n\nhttps://www.whitewallcinema.co.uk/february18th \n\n\n\n\n\nTickets available from: https://www.wegottickets.com/sct/HWDXhzTHp2 \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDOORS: 7.30pm* \n\n\n\nSTART TIME: 8.00pm \n\n\n\nRUN TIME: 115 mins approx \n\n\n\nCERT: 15 \n\n\n\nLOCATION: Wagner Hall (Regency Road\, Brighton)
